Species:

Leopard Gecko

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

None

Sexing and Characteristics:

N/A

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Use a solid substrate, loose substrates such as sand may be harmful to your gecko and cause impaction if ingested. Impaction is blockage inside your leo, and constipates them, and can lead to death. Safe substrates include reptile carpet, non adhesive shelf liner, tile, slate, newspaper without any printings, and safest is paper towels. For babies use paper towels for best substrate.

Lighting and UVB:

No UVB is required. Have a white light and a night glow bulb.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temperature should be around 80-85 degrees.

Heating and Equipment:

Like I said above, no UVB is required, but a white light should be used (not UVB or a basking light) to get good sleeping patterns for your leo, and to get the temperatures up during the day. A black night light should be used at night. There should be a 12 hour day 12 hour night cycle.

Caging Provided:

I use a 20 gallon long, it is the ideal tank size for your leo. If you house more than one leo, you should use the 10 gallon per leo rule. But one leo can live ina 10 gallon tank. But babies shouldnt live in a tank any bigger than 10 gallons.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Feed mainly crickets, you can feed silkworms as well, and waxworms only as a treat since they are very fattening, and mealworms occasionally as well. If mealworms are fed as a staple, their hard outer shell can cause impaction to your leo.
Your leos food should be no larger than the space between their eyes, if fed larger than that space it can lead to impaction as well.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust the crickets with repti cal. calcium without d3 and without phosphorus 5-6x a week, and calcium with d3 1-2x a week.

Maintenance:

Change the water bowl daily with fresh water, and clean up any feces or any other mess.

Some Words on this Species:

Leopard geckos are fairly easy to care for, and are extremely fun and tame. They are great for biginers or experienced herps.
