 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

1 to 2 Years

Species:

Ball Python

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

All morphs of ball python.

Sexing and Characteristics:

Very docile, babies feed very well, as they get older become very flaky feeders.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

I use cypress mulch, (keeper’s choice), can use aspen shavings, never use CEDAR!!!! Oils can kill snakes. Clean water when needed.

Lighting and UVB:

I use 14/10 cycle opposed to 12/12 because hard to heat mine but use a 12/12 (my house is kept very cold). No light nutrients needed.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temp. during day should be 77-85, at night 69-74. Humidity should stay around 50%-60%, too much can cause cage to become damp and cause bacterial growth.

Heating and Equipment:

On my 40 gallon breeder i have two under tank heating mats under both ends, and during day use a 150 watt sun glo heat lamp on either side! be sure not to make a basking spot on both sides.

Make sure you provide a hiding place such as a hide box, half logs at pet stores do very well also. Provide a climbing branch as well, mine seems to love it.

Caging Provided:

20 gallon long as baby until about 30" then went to 40 Gallon Breeder, the 40 breeder should be good for whole life.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Mice,Rats, and Gerbils. Pre-killed/Live

At 35 in i feed two feeder mice every week, or one small/medium rat every week.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Maintenance:

Clean cage once a month, check for feces, and make sure they have clean water.

Some Words on this Species:

Love them, great beginner snake, most tame beyond fast, mine i picked up the first day with no signs of aggression whatsoever.
