Sexing and Characteristics:

Males have a bump or swelling at the tail-base.Females do not.
The Gargoyle Gecko’s scientific name is Rhacodactylus ariculatus. It grows up to 5 inches long and can live up to 18 years. Is the smallest Rhacodactylus specie in the world and originates from New Caledonia.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

For the substrate, you can use peat moss and potting soil mixed together.Be sure that the substrate has an area that is always moist,so that the female can lay her eggs there.
For the water, you can use a small butter tub and put a rock in it.You could also go to a pet store and buy a water dish there.

Lighting and UVB:

A UVB Light is necessary for the lizard to properly process vitamin and minerals.A Flood Light can also be used to further brighten up your tank.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The Temperature should be 85 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night. The temperature should never go below 60 degrees.Mist the tank every day so that you can keep the humidity moderately high.Always have hiding places for your lizard so that it does not get too hot.

Heating and Equipment:

Do not use heating rocks because they can burn your lizards belly.Underground heating pads are not really needed.
Try to have many sticks in the tank for your lizard to climb on.

Caging Provided:

These lizards like larger areas than most lizards,so I suggest a 20-30 gallon tank for 2 or 3 lizards.Never have 2 males together because they will fight.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Most geckos tend to eat mainly insects, yet the Gargoyle Gecko loves fruits. It will eat plums, apricots, peaches, bananas and other non-citrus fruits. You can also feed it baby foods with fruit in them.It will sometimes eat crickets, small roaches, mealworms, and other small insects.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Every week or so you can give the lizard crickets that have been dusted with vitamin powder. You can find the powder at most pet stores.

Maintenance:

Depending on how messy it is,the tank should be cleaned every 2-3 weeks.

Some Words on this Species:

The Gargoyle Gecko is not a very good beginners pet.A Green Anole or Bahamas Anole is much better for inexperienced reptile owners.
