Coastal Carpet Pythons

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

amethystine pythons

Sexing and Characteristics:

Under there tail near the cloaca you will either feel a bump which is a male or you will not feel anything which is female. Very hard to tell when there young but when older much more easier

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

The best substrate for any snake is news paper but if you want the tank to look pretty cypress can be used

Lighting and UVB:

N/A

Temperatures and Humidity:

85-90 degrees

Heating and Equipment:

Under the tank heater. I always use heat wave brand. I wouldn’t suggest zoomed its to expensive and doesn’t work very well. Put under hide spot never under the water bowl

Caging Provided:

For my 2 baby’s i have a 40 gallon but for adults a custom built cage like the ones on cagesbydesign.com are excellent. My cage is decorated with a vine hanging on the back 2 trees in the middle and a half log above the heater. make sure there is plenty of climbing branches. If your looking for cheap stuff go to the nearest Michael’s or craftsmart. They have amazing plants and vines for snakes and lizards

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Pinkys or hopper mice for babys mice for Juvenal’s rats for adults. not large rats use about a medium for adults

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Maintenance:

There not that messy of a snake they rarely get in there water bowl simple cleaning of just picking up the droppings with a towel and every 2 months changing the substrate

Some Words on this Species:

Excellent beginner snake but these pythons are in a group of mean snakes so make sure you have plenty of time in handling them. Adults can be mixed with amethystine if slowly introduced
