Substrate and Water Needs:

A flapped necked chameleon should have a little waterdish for them to drink from. You should make sure that you spray the cage once or twice a day. Make sure you do not get the chameleon wet cause if you do it will puff up.

Lighting and UVB:

The flapped necked chameleon should have a UVA buld so it can get UV rays. the watts depend on the size of cage you have. I have my flapped necked in a medium size Exo-Terra terrarium. I have her on a 70 watt bulb.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The cage should have a higher humidity in the morning so you should spray it a couple times in the morning. The temperature should always stay between 75-80 degrees F. At night the chams cage can drop down to about 72. But make sure it doesn’t hit 70. I keep a heating pad under her cage always so the cage never drops to low.

Caging Provided:

My chameleon is a Juvie right now so I keep her in a medium Exo-Terra terrarium. But when the get older they should be kept in a 20-30 gallon aquarium.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

You should feed this cham about 3-4 crickets a day. when they get older about 6-9 a day depending on how hungry they are. Do not feed the cham at night after you turn the light off cause they will start to puke up there food. If the food in the stomach gets to cold it will give them a stomach ache and if you feed them allot and it gets cold they could die.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

I dust my crickets 3-4 times a week. I also have this calcium spray that I spray all the crickets with. The spray does not have to be used I just use it to make them healthier.

Maintenance:

Some Words on this Species:

Flapped neck chameleons have to get used to one or two people. They do not like being around a bunch of different people. They also do not like a change in smell. If you have a weird smell on you then the cham will puff up and it might start hissing. One neat thing about flapped neck chameleons is when it gets mad it will puff up really big there neck will come up and there flaps on the back of there neck will go up. When they get mad they will also turn a light green or gray color. Make sure you do not freak the cham out allot or the might just die. If it puffs up while you are holding it I recommend you put it back in its cage immediately.
