 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Ball pyhton

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

pythons

Sexing and Characteristics:

Please don’t try sexing your reptile please have a vet or some one experienced do it.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

I use Eco earth i like it because it looks a lot like a rain forest and my ball python really likes it. You can use newspaper but i just don’t like the look of it id rather have it looking as much as his habitat as much as i can. don’t use sand or cedar because it caries poisons that can harm your snake.

Lighting and UVB:

I don’t use UV because they are mostly out at night but one wont cause any harm tho. I think that just a normal light will work to heat up the tank. I use a 75 W white light for the day and a blue night light that is also 75 W that i have on all the time.

Temperatures and Humidity:

For a basking spot the temp should be around 90-95 then in the other side about 80-85. at night the temps should drop no lower then 75 witch can cause digestion problems. the humidity should be around 50- 60 and when he/she is shedding around 80 to help it come of nice with no problems.

Heating and Equipment:

I would say i night light about 75 W with a 75 W white light then have on the night light on all day and turn off the white light during the day. and u should a have a under tank heater that cover a good amount of the tank.

Caging Provided:

For a baby a ten gallon will be good but not for long as they get bigger you will need to upgrade it for an adult i would use a 40 gallon breeder witch is what i use. and that will be good for the rest of his life

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Hatch ling- use pinkie mice
juveniles- use baby rats - adult mice
adult- medium size rats

or for proper size food that will be the thickest part of there body no food should be bigger than that

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

The ball python should be alright if u feed it properly but if u want to maybe once month put some calcium powder on the food.

Maintenance:

Ball pythons pretty easy as long as u can afford the main supplies u need in the begging cage, under tank heater etc. and able to get food near you

Some Words on this Species:

If you like reptiles that are calm and fairly easy ball python is the way to go.
