Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Fire belly toad =]

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

N/A

Sexing and Characteristics:

I keep 2 FBT’s in a 10 gallon tank, and they seem fine and happy.
Ive never had to deal with and tadpoles, but my male jumps on the girl very very often and makes little noises, its really neat to watch them interact to much.
I cant imagine them without each other, they love each other!
I would recommend getting 2 or more!

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

In my 10 gallon, i have regular soil down from Home Depot. Ive heard that this isn’t good for the toads, but to me, this is the most natural way to go and they don’t seem to have a problem with it.
For the water...i just have a medium-large rock looking bowl bought from PetsMart...
The male one is in the water for most of the day, while the girl hangs out on land.

Lighting and UVB:

I just have a screen top with a 15 watt light on top on it. No uv needed.

Temperatures and Humidity:

I don’t have any sort of heating source. My room temp. is around 70-75 degree’s and it seems just fine for me.

Heating and Equipment:

No heating =]
That just makes it that much easier to keep this fun little toads

Caging Provided:

As I’ve mentioned before, i have a pair, with soil, fake plants, rocks, and wood pieces that the toads LOVE to hang out on and climb, with a large water bowl
i change the whole bowl once a week....one water bottle will fill this bowl so that’s what i use...if you don’t have a water bottle with its original water in it
BE SURE TO LEAVE THE WATER OUT FOR 24 HOURS THEN ADD TO YOUR TANK!!!

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed my pair about 2 dozen crickets a week.
Ill go to the pet store...once a week and get $2 in PINHEAD crickets, and that holds them up fine.
F.Y.I-If you buy some of those freeze-dried crickets if you have a THREAD AND NEEDLE it works GREAT!
Just poke the needle through the cricket and pull it to the end of the string and move the cricket around in the cage, your toads will think its real and will come running!

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

I use some sorta of HERB CARE calcium power of some sort, to provide some extra nutrients the crickets don’t give them.
Just dump a little tiny pinch of powder right into the bag the crickets come in and shake it a little until their all white and covered =] then just drop the crickets into the tank.

Maintenance:

The toads tend to get startled when i walk by the cage or when I’m changing the water...so they tend to just sorta try to jump up to glass so the soil gets on the glass, i just wipe that down once a week, change the water once a week and your good to go.

Some Words on this Species:

These were the first toads/frogs i have ever received, and you will just fall in love with these little guys.
You love when you look over at the tank and one of them are staring at you LOL
Its like having another friend..
