Species:

California King Snake

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

King Snakes

Sexing and Characteristics:

Probe

Mostly Active During:

N/A

Substrate and Water Needs:

Pet Carpet
Water bowl that’s big enough for the snake to fit in (but not to big to drown him in). Change the water often
I have a spray bottle I use to spray the tank with while Joe is shedding

Lighting and UVB:

Florescent bulb used 10 hours a day that’s changed every 6 months (the effectiveness in these bulbs wear off). Black light heat lamp left on all the time with 2 bulbs and some natural light from the window (always the best light)

Temperatures and Humidity:

Somewhere over 85-95 on the warm side and 70-80 on the cool side. Humidity between 45-50

Heating and Equipment:

Over the tank heat lamp and a under the tank heating pad left on 24/7 and a florescent bulb during the day. These are all on one side of the tank

Caging Provided:

Glass Aquarium but it’s cheaper to invest in some plastic containers.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

While they’re babies they should be fed one pinky every 5-7 days moving them up to a couple pinkies then to fuzzies and adult mice. A rule to go buy is feed them something that’s the width and a half of the body while they are growing

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

While feeding them pinkies because there isn’t much bone development I would suggest dipping them into a reptile vitamin supplement every couple feedings.

Maintenance:

Make sure you have 2 hides for them One on the cool side and one on the warm side. I suggest one of them being a humid hide that they can sit in while they’re shedding

Some Words on this Species:

They seem a bit jumpy as hatchlings but calm down when handled
