 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Fishstik

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Chinese (green) water dragon

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Possibly brown (australian) water dragon (havent dealt with them yet)

Sexing and Characteristics:

Males tend to be longer in length with taller spikes, the femoral pores under the body expand and fill with a waxy substance.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

I use a bark substrate that is approved for herps (never use cedar chips) and a water dish large enough for the lizard to sit up to it’s shoulders in the water

Lighting and UVB:

A UVB light is very neccesary to avoid metabolic bone disease due to not producing enough D3 vitamin. 10 to 12 hours of UVB light is essential.

Temperatures and Humidity:

88-85 degrees (85 on the cool side and 88 on the high side)
80-75 degrees at night (75 on the cool side and 80 on the high). you need to keep a temperature gradient in the tank so that the lizard may thermoregulate.
i keep like 75% humidity with a good misting and live plants in the tank

Heating and Equipment:

See above

Caging Provided:

Right now a 29 gallon high for a young dragon...soon to be bigger i reccomend you have a tank twice as long as your dragon and as high as you can get it. (they like to climb)

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Mine won’t eat vegetables. i dont know why but he just doesnt. he only eats moving food so i let him "hunt" crickets, superworms. pinkie are going to be given in the next month

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Vitamin dust once a week and calcium every feeding

Maintenance:

Keep the water clean....like everyday and spot check it to see if the dragon has defecated in the water.

Some Words on this Species:

My personal favorite lizard...i only like the males though....but that is just me
