Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Silkworms

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

None

Sexing and Characteristics:

N/A

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

Substrates: Plain paper towel or Unprinted printer paper.

Water:
None they get it from the silkworm chow/mulberry leaves.

Lighting and UVB:

None needed.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Humidity: Not really a concern, just don’t get them wet.

Temps: I keep mine around 70F. Don’t let it get over 80F.

Heating and Equipment:

You can use a Under tank heater or a Lamp fixture if you want, but it is not needed if your house stays around 70F.

Caging Provided:

JUMBO Reptile Ranch. You can use Reptile ranches, Rubbermaid’s or aquariums, all work well. If you see 4 silkworms stacked on top of each other the tank is too small.

Diet:

Herbivorous

Description of Diet:

Feed them silkworms chow or fresh mulberry leaves. Grate the chow over the worms, or put clumps of chow in the cage. Make sure not to feed them again until all the chow is gone or until it dries up. No need to feed them daily, I feed them 2 times a week. Silkworms will eat other stuff besides silkie chow, but usually die after wards.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Remember to dust all your reptiles food items with the proper supplements.

Maintenance:

Clean out the silkworms cage around, once a week to once every 2 weeks. If you clean it out daily you will have a huge amount of die offs. You don’t have to wear gloves before touching the colony, just wash your hands.

Some Words on this Species:

Not hard to care for, most care sheets make it seem like rocket science, but they are very easy to care for.
