 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Pacman500

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Jacksons Chameleons

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

None

Sexing and Characteristics:

Male jacksons chameleons have three horns while females have none.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

If any substrate are used, It should be paper towels. Substrate such as coconut fiber or mulch can be ingested. Since no chameleon will drink from standing water, a dripper must be provided to drop on to leaves. The chameleons will lap up the droplets.

Lighting and UVB:

If you live in a cold area such as the northeast or canada. A heating bulb should be provided to keep the temperature into the 70’s.

Ultraviolet light is a essential for calcium production.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Jacksons chameleons start going downhill at 85 degrees.

The temp format I use is:

Daytime:
85 degrees basking spot
75 cool spaces.

Nighttime:
68 degrees

Heating and Equipment:

Like I said if you live in Northern U.s. or canada a basking light is required. But if you live in the south west or in a hot place you may need a fan to keep temperatures down

Caging Provided:

A cage of 2x2x3 ft is a good cage size for a single jacksons chameleon but bigger is always better.

A ficus tree inside the cage will provide good climbing space.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Unlike veiled chameleons, jacksons do not ingest plant matter.

A varied diet is essential for functioning in any chameleon.

A diet of crickets, mealworms, silkworms, tropical roaches, beetles, and other insects will give proper variation.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

A 1:1 calcium phosphorus ratio is good.

Maintenance:

Clean cage thoroughly weekly.

Some Words on this Species:

These chameleons are very rewarding captives.
Their dinosaur like appearance makes them very popular
