Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Squirrel treefrog

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Green treefrog, gray treefrog, and pine wood treefrog

Sexing and Characteristics:

In the breeding season, the male will have a loose, baggy, dark throat. Females don’t

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

I personally like moss but make sure that it isn’t too small to be swallowed. paper towels are inexpensive and easy to clean but it makes the tank look unnatural. Also a small shallow water dish about an inch deep with distilled water.

Lighting and UVB:

No lighting needed as they are nocturnal

Temperatures and Humidity:

Room temperature is fine if it is in the 70s but not below 60. Humidity should be 60-80%. This can be done by placing a piece of plexiglass over the top of the cage. Mist 2-3 times a day

Heating and Equipment:

You will need a few sticky plants stuck on the wall, a hiding place like a piece of bark. Don’t really need heating unless you live somewhere cold. A weak basking spot could be used if it is cold.

Caging Provided:

Never more than 3 per 10 gallons. The bigger the better

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Feed small crickets, moths, fruit flies, and small butterflies. The prey item should never be bigger than the space between the eyes.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust the prey every week with calcium supplement from the pet store.

Maintenance:

Clean the tank walls every week when you see frog poo. Change the water every other day and only use distilled water

Some Words on this Species:

A great beginners pet that is inexpensive
