Sexing and Characteristics:

Males are smaller than females, usually 6-8 inches

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

Dry substrate, i use rabbit pellets mixed with dried out coconut husks, CAL-STRATE, sand fortifed with calcium is great as a mix.

Lighting and UVB:

Uvb, uva..provide a basking area over 80 degrees, as well as a hiding spot, so tort can cool down.

Temperatures and Humidity:

No more than 60 percent humidity. russian’s can handle cool temps, but NOT cool and DAMP.

Heating and Equipment:

I use natural sunlight when applicable(outside in the summer..not a long summer, we live in Maine)as well as uvb and uva lighting during the winter. As long as there is NO draft, put your turtle close to a window for natural light

Caging Provided:

A turtle table is best, if not be creative....4by4foot box with hiding spots, basking area, shallow water dish and plenty of substrate for digging and farting around

Diet:

Herbivorous

Description of Diet:

Clover, hay(mine like to romp and burrow in the hay, not really eat it...)omaine lettuce, FRUIT ONLY AS A TREAT!!!!!! to much phosphate...

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Calcium every three of four days

Maintenance:

Two or three times a week, a soak in tepid or lukewarm water for hydration. (make sure to dry tort off before you are done)I like to take mine out in the yard on a nice day for a little stroll. he gets really "happy" and loves to explore the yard, with supervision of course!!!!!! as much exercise as possible, they can get fat, i only feed twice a day, and leave food for about a half an hour, what isn’t eaten is taken away.
