 Care Sheet Submitted By:

415boyz

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Southern Alligator lizards

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Probably some other ones.

Sexing and Characteristics:

Males heads seem to be more triangular head than females. Males are also a little more aggressive.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

Bark, Potting soil, Forest bedding by T-Rex. All of these work well due to the fact that they look natural to the Southern Alligator Lizards environment. Zoo-Meds forest bed looks identical to T-Rex. Basically something you would see in a forest for substrate. As for water, just use a shallow dish of water.

Lighting and UVB:

UVA lighting on about 10 hours a day. UVB is also needed at about the same time length. Make sure that the UVB light is within 8 inches. These two lights combined will simulate artificial and beneficial sunlight.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Day: 70-80 degrees. Night: 60-65 degrees.
Humidity: About 65%

Heating and Equipment:

If needed use Zoo-med ceramic heater. Just remember NO heat rocks. They cause SERIOUS damage to all reptiles. Temperature gauges can also be kept to regulate temps and humidity. Waterfalls can be useful they can increase humidity.

Caging Provided:

180 gallon custom made enclosure for 3 of them.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Primarily use crickets. You could also feed them Mealworms. And just for some variation you could also feed them spiders.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

I use T-Rex Calcium. Also use Zoo-Med Reptevite. Use on every feeding. If you caught your Alligator Lizard then supplements are not needed.

Maintenance:

Pretty easy. Just spot clean daily, change water, change substrate every 4-6 months depending on substrate.

Some Words on this Species:

Very cool lizard. They can tame to the point where they don’t have to bite you. They are pretty cheap as far as food goes. All you have to spend a week on food is about $5.00. The thing that are cool with lizards is that they are pretty aggressive and also can reach a total size to 24 inches. Cool personalities. Overall cool lizard.
