Sexing and Characteristics:

Determining the sex of dwarf puffers is difficult when young. When they become adults the males get a dark line that runs down their stomach and their stomach becomes more of a yellow color. The males also developer wrinkles around their eyes. Females are much more rounded then the males also.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

The easiest to clean is gravel but sand can also be used.
PH: at least 7.0
Nitrates and Ammonia 0

Lighting and UVB:

They need light during the day any type of lighting will work.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Dwarf puffer do well at a temperature of 78-82degrees.

Heating and Equipment:

A heater and filter are a must a good filter is needed because of their messy eating habits. Some good names are Aqua Clear and Whisper power filters. Make sure the filter isn’t too strong for puffers they are not great swimmers and can easily get sucked onto the filter intake.

Caging Provided:

Each Dwarf Puffer needs only 3 gallons per fish. You need to have the cage planted very well sometimes when puffers mature they become aggressive towards each other. They need plants to break up the sight path with each other. My tank is densely planted but my puffers show no aggression toward each other they never leave each others side.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Dwarf Puffers need a varied diet to remain healthy. Many keepers of Dwarf Puffers feed mainly bloodworm’s. And substitute with Brine Shrimp, Mysis Shrimp, Daphinia, Tubeflix Worms and Krill. Snails are also a very important part of the dwarf puffers diet. They need these young puffers cant really eat snails yet but adults need them. Pond snails are best they have a thin shell and are easier for the puffers to crunch. Many pet stores have these they come in on plants and become a problem a lot of stores will just give you the snails that are in their tanks.
Flakes and pellets can be used but aren’t recommended to keep your puffer healthy

Clean the tank monthly and do a 20 % water change every 2 weeks
