 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Leopard gecko

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

leopard gecko

Sexing and Characteristics:

Leopard geckos are usually mature at a year.
leopard geckos are probably the most friendly gecko i have had.
Males:
you can tell if its a male usually when you get it depending on the size. They have two bumps on the starting of their tale which is how you tell
Females:
females i would say they are the easiest to tell of its gender, they don’t have two bumps (some times they have one on their tail). But they are a great beginner reptile

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Personally i use repti-carpet and that’s what i
would recommend because i had sand at the start and my gecko got sick and my friend used mulch and it ate the mulch while feeding and got impacted(luckily he got better).but newspaper would work but you have to make sure that the ink is non-toxic.paper towel works great its easy to change.

Lighting and UVB:

I use a 50 watt basking bulb and a 5 gallon heating pad for the day, and the 5 gallon heating pad at night for my 20 gallon

15 gallon:
i would use a 60 watt for day and if your house get cold at night may be a very small heat pad
10 gallon:
a 50 watt would work good.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temperatures:
for the leopard gecko i would say 85-92 during the day and 70-75 at night but in the desert it can get down to 60 or lower so 65 is ok to.
Humidity:
it should always be a little humid i would spay it 3 times a week or every day.Geckos also shed, and when there going to shed it needs to be humid.I put paper towel down when he starts to look like hes going to shed and spay it with water and when it gets dry spay it again just do that until he sheds

Heating and Equipment:

NEVER USE HEAT ROCKS this could burn him on the inside and on the outside.
heat lamps and heat pad are the to best heater to use the light and heat pad are the same amount of money at the start but then you have to buy more bulb.if you have a bigger tank you can get a night bulb too.

Caging Provided:

I use a 20 gallon long, i used to have a 10 gallon but my friend had a 20 gallon he didn’t need so i use it. Now 5 gallons are ok for when your cleaning his/her tank but you cant have it live in one cause it will be to hot on both sides so he wont have any cold places.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed my gecko crickets, some people feed them meal worms but i don’t anymore because it hard for them to digest.but i you can get him/her to eat lettuce DON’T FEED HIM/HER ICEBERG LETTUCE IT CAN KILL THEM OR GET THEM VERY ILL only use romaine lettuce.feed them as many as they will eat but don’t exceed 10 it can bloat him/her
treats:
for a treat you can feed them wax worms and silk worms as a one a week thing like maybe every Sunday he can have one

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Some people have vitamin powder but its not required but you can but calcium is 100% needed lightly dust every cricket every other time or every 3 time

Maintenance:

Clean every time he takes a washroom brake and it wont get as bad as keeping it there for like 10 day. Clean everything new that you get him and any thing you find wood, rocks, etc CLEAN WITH BOILInG WATER.

Some Words on this Species:

This is a great beginner reptiles for all ages i would recommend this gecko its easy to look after and it not very $$$$$
