Sexing and Characteristics:

Males have obvious hemipenal bulges. it is impossible to sex geckos under four months of age.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Substrates are paper, paper towels, coco fiber, orchid bark, cypress mulch. usually wont drink from standing water, so it is important to mist down the cage at least twice a day.

Lighting and UVB:

UVB may be used, but isn’t necessary. may be kept at room temperature, but a red or blue bulb may be used cautiously.

Temperatures and Humidity:

A temperature of 72 F is fine. never let the cage temps. be higher than 85 degrees F. mist cage with spray bottle twice a day for humidity.

A small lamp with a 45 watt bulb may be used.

Caging Provided:

For a hatchling, a plastic pet keeper cage is ideal. for an adult, use a glass or screened cage measuring at least 12x12x18 ", although larger is usually better. for a small group of adults( two females or one male and several females) use a cage at least 18x18x24 inches. place several branches of different height in securely. add a few fake of live plants and foliage,as well as a hide box or two and an egg laying container filled with a moist substrate(coco bedding is well suited for this) if there is a breeding pair or group. even with single animals, a moist hide is useful in aiding shedding.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Since cresties are omnivores, they can be fed various foods. i feed mine mostly crested gecko diet by t rex. it is a complete food with all vitamins and minerals to support healthy geckos. they can also eat crickets of appropriate size. use the lizards’ head as a guadge for the correct size of cricket. in general, feed crix that measure from the tip of the lizards’ snout to its eyes. i also feed an occasional soft fruit, such as mashed banana, small pieces of apples, and mangos. you may also feed them low fat yogurt and applesauce, but very rarely. CGD should be the staple. feed them every day in the evening.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None, if you feed these geckos a staple of CGD. but if u use other foods, such as baby food, supplement calcium every 3rd feeding for adults, and every 2md feeding for babies. if u still feed CGD as a main diet, and alternate, then supplement every fourth feeding or fifth. gravid females eating CGD can be supplemented calcium every 6th feeding, or fifth.

Maintenance:

Clean up dead insects and fecal matter every day. clean entire cage once a week to month; naturalistic substrate can be cleaned less frequently.

Some Words on this Species:

Cresties are excellent pets that are rewarding to keep and breed.
