Sexing and Characteristics:
Males have a large protruding horn with a smaller one underneath. Females look like massive June beetles.

Substrate and Water Needs:
4 - 6" of peat moss, reptile bark, or pesticide free soil from your yard(balked at 400 degrees for 15 min to remove any parasites or pathogens)
Lighting and UVB:
None, as extensive exposure to most invertebrates will cause death. But a normal aquarium light will do.
Temperatures and Humidity:
Room temperature is ok. 60-75 F
70 - 75% humidity, a hygrometer is helpful here.
Heating and Equipment:
None required.
Caging Provided:
5 - 10 gallon terrarium is warranted for this species.
Height is as important as length.
Diet:
Herbivorous
Description of Diet:
Juveniles will eat rotting wood and leaves, adults will eat real maple syrup or the soft parts of fruits and veggies.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
Calcium, to promote a strong exoskeleton.
Maintenance:
Low, they eat rotting plant material, so changing of substrate isn’t as important as the food. The substrate in most cases will BECOME food if the animal is not fed regularly.
Some Words on this Species:
They are rather large, growing from 1.2 - 3.25", but they are docile, and unlike most other invertebrates, can be handle and played with gently.
