Average Rating Given To This Care Sheet Is 0    (1=lowest, 5=highest)    Last Updated: 06/07/2007

Main Category:

Aquatic/Land

Sub Category:

Tree Frogs

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

DragonWolf3X

Years Experience:

5 to 10 Years

Species:

Green Treefrog

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

it covers a few big don’ts with this animal

Sexing and Characteristics:

Male tree frogs are usually smaller than females, and have more wrinkled throats.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

They like the peat moss and soil mix, but also with house plant
(that aren’t deadly) clippings on the bottom too. they of course need to be sprayed with water, but do enjoy and benefit from a shallow water dish they can just jump into. mine lounge in the water dish.

Lighting and UVB:

Regular fluorescent lighting AT MOST. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE A HEAT LAMP. or any other heat source anything like heat rocks, and not even heat mats. they will burn him or dry him up, just try to keep it warm in the room he is in and they are fine with that

Temperatures and Humidity:

As i said before, no heat lamps, hot rocks, or heat mats. just keep it warm in the room surrounding. maybe between 70 and 80 degrees would do. they don’t like it too hot, even considering they are rain forest creatures. and for humidity, spray entire tank with a spray bottle 2-3 times a day or more if you want. you can also put more water into the substrate so it holds in the moisture and makes more humidity, but watch for mold on some substrates. don’t make it too hot

Heating and Equipment:

No heating equipment except for a fluorescent light, they do emit some heat, and if you have a screen, the heat with enter the cage without being overwhelming. you don’t need much equipment, foggers and waterfalls are simply extra stuff that can so make the tree frog happier.

Caging Provided:

I have a huge reptarium with many things inside, but here is what i recommend. use a tall tank, tree frogs don’t get big, but they like to jump around and explore. a 10 gallon would work and you can put no more than 3 in there, and add 10 gallons more for 2 more after that. mine has sticks, just from the yard, you can also use fake vines and reptile ladders too.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

They love crickets, but I’m pretty sure they love moths even more, they eagerly jump at those. meal worms, wax worms, and earth worms are all OK too. no out side bugs except crickets, worms, and moths.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

When you buy crickets, use something called tree frog dust to coat them, it’s a dust full of the stuff they need and will make the insect seem more appetizing. it’s recommended

Maintenance:

Clean 2-3 times a month to avoid over cleaning, and under cleaning, wash the walls, because they leave sticky finger messes there, and change the substrate.

Some Words on this Species:

Depending on the age you get them, don’t be alarmed when they start to "talk" they will reach sexual maturity and start to do its mating call which sounds close to a cat.
