 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Caliherper

Years Experience:

5 to 10 Years

Species:

Chinese Cave Gecko (Goniurosaurus luii)

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

None

Sexing and Characteristics:

The males have bulges on their legs. but I recommend you getting your lizard probed by a pro.

These geckos are nocturnal cave dwelling animals that are from Tropical Asia.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Eco bedding, paper towels, and sphagnum moss will do just fine., Provide a large water bowl for them to soak and drink from at all times.

Lighting and UVB:

No UV is needed, in fact UV can injure your lizard and may even kill it. So I recommend a 10 watt black light and a 20 watt infrared bulb.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The daytime temp should range from 70-80 degrees F. At night, the temp should be around 65-75 degrees F. the humidity should always stay at 70-90%.

Heating and Equipment:

None, thy will easily dehydrate and die from heating equipments

Caging Provided:

I provided a 15-20 gallon tank with a secure lid, and provide a large hide box or a wood cave log, and inside the hiding place, there should be moist sphagnum moss. The cave must be at least half the size of the cage.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

They viciously eat a variety of insects such as crickets, mealworms, waxworms, butterworms, night crawlers, silkworms, roaches and phoenix worms.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust insects with calcium before feeding except phoenix worms, due to that they have lots of calcium to begin with.

Maintenance:

Clean cage weekly, and mist daily.

Some Words on this Species:

These guys are black and purple, with red eyes, I have had mine for over 6 years now, and I would like to inform you that captive breeding has been very limited, but i have breed mine successfully. These geckos are very timid and delicate so I recommend you don’t handle yours too often.
