 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

1 to 2 Years

Species:

Columbian Red Tail Boa

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Red Tail Boa

Sexing and Characteristics:

The most docile of the red tails, the columbian red tail boa is a favorite among younger kids. It has a life span of up to 20 years if kept healthy. A female red tail can grow up to 10ft (they can grow bigger) and a male, around to 6-8ft.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

A clean water dish is a must! Make sure it is large enough for it to bathe in however. Useing simple bark is fine or, when it’s still a baby, you can use paper towels. Make sure you change the substrates every week or so.

Lighting and UVB:

Use a UVB light during the day and a heat lamp in the night (day also, depending on your tempature). Also make sure he/she gets some natural lighting

Temperatures and Humidity:

Although these snakes dont need much humidty, make sure to spray the cage with water every once in awhile. During the day keep the temperatures around 85-95 degrees F in it’s basking spot. During the night put it around 75-85 degrees F

Heating and Equipment:

I DO NOT reccomend heating pads or rocks, a simple heating lamp is suffcient. Make sure it has a place to climb and hide.

Caging Provided:

Right now my baby is in a 20 gallon tank, but he is growing so will upgrade the cage to a 48x48x36 cage. Becareful, if the cage is to big the snake may refuse to eat.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Eats, small - large rats and small rabbits

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

N/A

Maintenance:

Relative easy to take care of but make sure it is handle as a baby to prevent agrresiveness as it grows. Feed it outside of it’s cage so that it will confuse a hand with a rat.

Some Words on this Species:

What can i say, they make a great pet!
