Sexing and Characteristics:

Mostly Active During:

Substrate and Water Needs:
Add fresh water weekly. You may not see your alligator lizard/lizards drink anything at first, but they need some time to get use to the new terrarium. You should also use tree bark or something that would represent a forest. You should use a water dish the lizards could see as a natural rock holding water.
Lighting and UVB:
I recommend using a UVB lamp. I never really use uvb a lot since alligator lizards like to hide and burrow. I use UVB about 75% of daytime
Temperatures and Humidity:
Alligator lizards like the temperature from 75 to 85 degrees. I recommend the humidity at 50%.
Heating and Equipment:
You should use a low heat heating pad under the terrarium to keep the alligator lizards warm when sleeping.
Caging Provided:
I recommend a 40 gallon terrarium for 3 adult lizards. 5 to 10 gallon for 1 to 2 juveniles. You may use whatever size terrarium keeps you’re alligator lizard happy
Diet:
Carnivorous
Description of Diet:
You should feed adults a large cricket every 1 to 2 days, and juveniles a small cricket every day.You can also feed all ages a meal worm 3 times a week.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
I calcium dust my crickets before I feed them to the lizards every day. You may also use some other healthy supplements if you like.
Maintenance:
You should spot clean the terrarium every day, give fresh water weekly, and change the substrate monthly. You should also get your alligator lizards a larger terrarium as they get bigger.
Some Words on this Species:
Most alligator lizards enjoy living in the forest so you should make the terrarium seem like a forest to the lizards. Add logs, plants, small caves, etc to your terrarium to keep the lizards happy. I recommend alligator lizards to experienced reptile owners, since they may bite, and are hard to care for. They are nice lizards to care for though since they tame easily, and love their owners once you and the lizard create a special bond.
