 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Crested Geckos

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Gargoyle Geckos

Sexing and Characteristics:

N/A

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Crested Geckos should be given a small water bowl in their tanks. Paper towels work well on the floors of crested gecko tanks but I prefer using natural substrates such as cocoa bark.

Lighting and UVB:

Low-powered heat lamps work well at providing good temperature and lighting for your geckos.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Crested Gecko tanks should be heated at temperatures from 70 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Heating and Equipment:

If the room that you are keeping your crested gecko in is 70 degrees to 85 degrees you will not need a heat lamp. ALWAYS keep a thermometer inside the tank to tell you if the tank is the correct temperature.

Caging Provided:

Reptile Terrariums work well but I use a glass aquarium (for fish) that measures a foot and a half tall(about 48 cm tall).

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Feed your crested gecko "gut loaded" and powdered crickets once a week. Baby food is a good food to provide a healthy diet to your gecko. Mashed papaya also works well when it comes the time to feed your gecko. Cresteds might not eat their food right away but abnormal behavior such as not eating at all should be consulted with a herpetologist or veterinarian.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust your crickets with calcium powder and feed your crickets the proper nutrient supplementation.

Maintenance:

At least once a week, clean your tank with white vinegar. Also change water in the water bowl daily.

Some Words on this Species:

I don’t recommend crested geckos to people who aren’t going to research them beforehand. If you have a love for reptiles these guys are perfect for you!
