 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Ala Lizzard761

Years Experience:

10 to 15 Years

Species:

All cats

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

This Care sheet is basically covering all species of domesticated cats, including the mixed breeds.

Sexing and Characteristics:

You will notice that you can usually tell from the sexual characteristics below their tail. The male has a small dot like a circle and somewhat separated from their anus. When they are sexing, a females vulva may be in the same situation as the male. Fixing your cat is another thing we will cover. If male does not have sex organs, hes fixed. For females, check if there is a scar on her underside indicating where those were taken out.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Like almost all animals, cats need water to survive. No matter what species, your cat should have a bowl of fresh water either from a sink or from a water bottle. Make sure the water is cold; a cat may refuse to drink warm water. Make sure you pour new water into the dish daily; bacteria can invade it, and otherwise the water might get dirty. And don’t let a cat drink from a pond or a lake, etc. The algae, plankton, and bacteria that they contain could mean fatal to your cat.

Lighting and UVB:

Cats do not need any special lighting, but you will find that they come up from sleeping on warm days, and like to stretch out, basking in the sun. UVB light is not needed at all.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Cats with short fur such as the Spynxes, Bombay, and Bengal should have a temperature of 55-75. Cats that are long haired, such as the Maine coon,Persian, etc. should have a temperature of 45-70, since their long thick fur keeps them warm.

Heating and Equipment:

Cats do not need any heating, except for a few good days to bask in the sun. But all cats should have a water dish, a food dish with food your cat likes, and if your cat lives in the house only, a litter box but if he is allowed outside your cat can do his business’s in the yard or someplace nearby elsewhere.

Caging Provided:

I do not have a cage from my cat, I let him roam free, coming in the house and out into the yard again. Cats should not be kept in a cage for so long, because cats are curious animals and they like space so they can explore.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Cats will eat cat food found in stores, try some out on your cat. If your cat is old, I do not rec commend trying out new foods because this could hurt your cat’s system. A cat will also crave the wet cat food as a treat. Some cats will hunt their own prey, which is good and bad. Some rodents they catch carry rabies so make sure you have your cat get a rabies shot before you let him outside. Also, chewing on grass is okay. Grass helps cats digest their food easier.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Cats need much protein in their diet, which is very important. Usually in cat food they will have vegetables along with meat, which is the two requirements:Vegetables and meat.

Maintenance:

Cats need food and water which should be changed daily, and if your cat has a litter box, make sure its tidy, and cleaned once a day and make sure your cat has easy access. Cats require space and independent time. If you want to spend time with your cat, let him/her come to you. Claws do not need to be clipped, but if they start curling, immediately clip them before they dig into their paw which hurts them. If cat is limping, check if that is one of the causes.

Some Words on this Species:

Cats are independent, easy going animals. They love to pick fights and hunt rodents and birds. They can be very lovable, but watch their diet; cats can become fat easily. Cats may seem dumb, and you’d think dogs are better cause they know tricks and are smart. No. My cat knows sit, stay, lay down, and is came by his name. Practice these tricks and give him a treat each time.
