 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Dveek!

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Armadillo Lizard

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

None

Sexing and Characteristics:

The males’ heads’ are thicker than their necks and the females’ heads’ are the same thickness as the neck.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

Substrate: For lizards under 1.5 years use cage carpet for over 1.5 years use sand. Mix the sand with some soil on one end of the cage.
Water: Provide a very large dish and mist every other day. if you miss a day on the misting that’s OK

Lighting and UVB:

UVB is unnecessary. You only need UVA. They need the cage to be brightly lit in order to get active.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temperatures should be 100 degrees on one end and 85 on the other. Humidity should be 40-60 percent during the day, rising up to around 75 at night.

Heating and Equipment:

I have one 8.5 inch clamp lamp with a 100 watt desert heat bulb on one end. On the other end I have a 5.5 inch clamp lamp with a 60 watt desert bulb. This seems to keep the temperatures ideal.

Caging Provided:

A 40 gallon tank will house 1-3 adults throughout their lives. Never house 2 males together. Pile some rocks on the hot end of the cage. That means they dwell in sand and rocks. Provide a hide box for each animal. Always cover the cage with a screen top Climbing branches should also be available.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Babies: feed insects like roaches crickets silk worms wax worms and meal worms as 90 percent of there diet. 10 percent should be fruit as they don’t eat veggies. Mine like banana and straw berries. If yours doesn’t like fruit then thats OK. Feed daily
Adults: for adults feed 70 insect, 20 percent fruit and 10 percent pinky mice. Same thing, if they don’t like fruit replace it with insects. Feed every other day. If you miss a day thats OK

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust with calcium and D3 every 2 feedings and a multi vitamin weekly.

Maintenance:

Clean the cage monthly

Some Words on this Species:

Everything you want in a lizard. Small(8-12 inches), nice, cool looking, and can go a couple days without much of anything
