Species:

Brazilian Rainbow Boa

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

none

Sexing and Characteristics:

Sexes are a like.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Preferred- Cypress bed, Reptile Bark, Reptile Carpet, Moss,
Aspen, Eco Earth, News Paper. If using Aspen & Eco Earth make sure you don’t get mites. I use a water bottle to mist the cage every day. There is a bedding called Douglas Fir Shavings with Eucalyptus,is a good bedding because it can be misted and will not mold, as well it is soft on the snake and is Ultra - absorbent, Contains not toxic resins or oils, and 100 %natural- environmentally friendly. Its good for all snakes. Avoid Eucalyptus moss because that contains oils.
Avoid cedar.
Always feed in another container.
I use reptile bark. Provide a large water bowl that they can fully soak in.

Lighting and UVB:

UVB brings out their Natural Color but does not help with the snakes’s calcium. Since most constrictors are nocturnal they don’t need uv rays. I’v keep a day and night cycle bulb for my snake, for heat. UV lights are not needed.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Day Temp: 80-90
Night Temp: 75-80
Humidity: 65-85%
(Higher when in shed)

Heating and Equipment:

Reptile heat bulbs work well. I don’t use heat pads for none of my snakes. Most pet stores don’t use them. My snakes are kept on wood frames that can get too hot, so I use 100w day time reptile bulb for day and 60w red light at night.
Let temperature drop at night. You can use heat pads, but I don’t. (DON’T USE HOT ROCKS)

Caging Provided:

I have a baby Boa, so I use a 29 gallon Critter Cage with a lock.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed my young rainbow boa a feeder mouse once a week.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None

Maintenance:

Easy to keep. Don’t mist too much, because of bugs & mites.
Don’t over heat, It will kill the snake.

Some Words on this Species:

Start out with a ball python. Rainbows can be nippy as babies.
