Sub Category:

Tortoises

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Bob billons

Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Greek Tortoise

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

none

Sexing and Characteristics:

Males are smaller than females and have longer tails.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

You can use a large water dish so the tortoise can get in it and soak. Or you can use a small water dish and spray the tortoise 2-3 times a week. For substrate I use aspen shavings but some other substrates are 50% top soil and 50% sand mix works good or coconut fiber.

Lighting and UVB:

You need to have a light fixture with a 75 watt bulb in it. And there should be a basking spot of 90-95 degrees F. And the best way to get UVB is to take your tortoise outside or even make an outdoor pen for your tortoise.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The temperature should be 75-85 degrees F. And the humidity should be 30%-50%.

Heating and Equipment:

A light fixture and a light bulb and that should be it.

Caging Provided:

If you are housing indoors you should build a turtle table that is 4 foot by 2 foot. If you are housing outdoors you should have a pen that is escape proof it needs to be around 3-4 foot under ground because they can dig very well.

Diet:

Herbivorous

Description of Diet:

Dried tortoise food, grass, dandelions, romaine lettuce, summer squash, and carrots.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

You should have a calcium supplement and a vitamin/mineral supplement. Use the calcium supplement every feeding and the vitamin/mineral supplement once a week by sprinkling them on the food.

Maintenance:

Clean out feces (droppings) every day clean tank every week.

Some Words on this Species:

This species gets about 6-8 inches long and is very beautiful. I wish you luck with your new tortoise.
