3 to 5 Years

Species:

Ball or Royal Python

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

NONE

Sexing and Characteristics:

Males are smaller in length and girth and when probed will be found to have a hemi-penis. Females are larger in size over all and have more profound cloacal spurs.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

I prefer to allow the animal have a more natural enclosure so I provide them with a larger bark substrate since smaller barks cane become en-lodged in the animals throat. Its also OK to use cypress and moss, a leafy substrate may work as well. WARNING FREEZE ALL SUBSTRATES YOU BUY THEY MAY CONTAIN MITES AND OTHER PARASITES!!!!!!!! news papers and repti carpets can be used as well but I don’t recommend them. As far as water, water should be available to the animal every day and should be large enough for the animal to soak in when it comes time to shedding.

Lighting and UVB:

Based on the size of the enclosure I find it best to use a ceramic heat emitter like the ones ZOO MEDS and EXO TERRA for heat and a day glow light bulb during the day for lighting the enclosure. At night a red or black bulb will do.

Temperatures and Humidity:

During the day a high of 85-95 degrees is good but also make sure you have a cool spot of at least 75-82 degrees. At night temperatures should be 75-80 degrees at night.

Heating and Equipment:

Ceramic heaters and heating pads are good for 24 hour cycle periods as long as the temperature does not get too high or too low. WARNING NO HEATING ROCKS THE CAN BURN YOUR REPTILE WHICH COULD LEAD TO WORSE PROBLEMS!!!

Caging Provided:

A 20 gallon long is good for babies and sub adults but an 40-75 gallon tank for adults is recommended.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Pinkie mice to large rats and rabbits considering the size of the snake.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

A calcium supplement lightly dusted on a mouse or rat is OK to use every other feeding.

Maintenance:

Very easy to maintain be sure the animal has plenty of water and to change out the enclosures substrate and wipe the tank out every two months.
