Sexually mature males develop large external hemipenal bulges and pre-anal pores.
Mostly Active During:
Night
Substrate and Water Needs:
Potting soil and store bought substrates work great, be sure to keep the substrate moist so females can lay eggs. For water you can place a dish in the enclosure or use a spray bottle to mist the cage.
Lighting and UVB:
A UVB light should be used about 12 hours a day.
Temperatures and Humidity:
Daytime temperature should reach about 80-85 degrees and fall to 70-75 degrees at night.
Heating and Equipment:
Heat mats and lamps are not needed if the cage temperature is already correct. Rhacodactylus Auriculatus is an Arboreal species and requires branches or foliage to climb and hide on.
Caging Provided:
I would suggest a 30 to 60 gallon enclosure for multiple adults, a 20 to 30 gallon for juveniles, and a 10 to 20 gallon for hatchlings. Never put two males together or they will fight.
Diet:
Omnivorous
Description of Diet:
Rhacodactylus Auriculatus feeds on crickets and soft fruits. Give them appropriately sized crickets2-3 times a week. They will eat fruit flavored baby foods and fruits like bananas, peaches.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
When feeding your gecko crickets, dust them with vitamin powder, and also give your gecko a calcium and mineral supplement offered in a shallow dish.
Maintenance:
Feces should be removed from the enclosure whenever you see it. Water should be changed daily.
Some Words on this Species:
Rhacodactylus Auriculatus is a relatively easy gecko to care for.
