Sub Category:

Milk Snakes

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Panther_Baseball

Years Experience:

5 to 10 Years

Species:

Mexican Milk Snake

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Mexiacan Milk Snakes

Sexing and Characteristics:

Females are usually bigger than males. Sexing should always be administered by a professional.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Wood chips (Never use cedar or aspen wood chips as these are deadly to all snakes), newspaper, indoor-outdoor carpet, Calci-Sand. Make sure it’s deep enough for your snake to bury himself because that’s what they will do 23 out of 24 hours.

Lighting and UVB:

No special lighting required, but I use a heat lamp for appropriate heating requirements.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Anywhere from 75-85 degrees. You will notice a big difference in behavior is not enough heat is administered.

Heating and Equipment:

Heat lamps, under-tank heaters. Never use a heat rock, as these can have "hot spots" and burn your snake.

Caging Provided:

I provide roughly a 40 gallon wooden cage with a locking top lid, that I built myself.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed noenates once a week and adults once every 2-3 weeks.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None

Maintenance:

Clean and fresh water at all times, best to change it daily, clean cage every month or so.

Some Words on this Species:

I have had snakes as pets for a long time and my Mexican Milk Snake has never threatened to bite me or bitten me. He might wiggle his tail in the wood chips to sound like a rattler but it’s just a little thing to ward off predators.
