Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Ball Python

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Ball Python, baby or adult

Sexing and Characteristics:

Spurs on either side of the vent, probing is the best and effective way, done by a vet.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

I use Bed-a-beast, it comes in blocks that expand with water and retains water well, also easy to clean up after snake and isn’t harmful if swallowed and can be used for eggs. Large water bowl for bathing and small Drinking bowl. Cleaned everyday as algea grows slimy white and can’t always be seem, but felt!

Lighting and UVB:

I use a 75watt house lightbulb for the 47.5 show tank mine is in, different wattages for different cage setups and species. I use red light at night and natural daylight during the day.

Temperatures and Humidity:

I keep my tank a nice 80-85temp with 75-85 humidity.

Heating and Equipment:

I do not use under the tank heater, nor a heat rock. The bulb mentioned above is it and since the change he will eat alot better and no owner worries about burns.

Caging Provided:

47.5 show tank top is half glass and half screen. The screen is covered with a towel and a hole cut out for the light and then it’s vented for temp and hum control.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed 2 weaned rats twice a week in cage. Or 3 mice if rats aren’t available. Will not feed till full. Add according to growth/needs for breeding etc.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

I spray shed ease on once a day while in shed and soak for 30min after eyes become clear, this helps with once piece wet shed.

Maintenance:

I constantly monitor temp and humidity, rearrange cage accessories of caves etc for a more interesting environment as if snakes can get bored. It keeps things interesting for them and they explore more.

Some Words on this Species:

I know the BP are finicky eaters and with trial and error and knowing your snake and having knowledge of potential problems, you can help eliminate the finickyness by feeding what can be offered,live,F/T etc. Try different ways of feeding, different containers, until you find what they’ll accept.
