Sexing and Characteristics:

It can be tricky to sex emperor scorpions, especially the larger ones. The female scorpions are usually more ’fat’ looking and have slightly larger claws, while the males are more slender looking with more elongated claws. The only sure way to sex a emperor scorpion is by looking at the feathery looking pectines. The males pectines are longer and more feathery looking.

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Sand, bark, dirt, soil are good bedding. Rocks, logs, cork bark, etc. make good hiding places. Moss can be added for floor cover, but leave some areas open for burrowing in the substrate. They will burrow. One thing make sure you do have a hiding place for them. Don’t just use sand for the whole tank it’s best to put moss or bark over it. For water put it in a small water dish that the scorpion can’t fall in.

Lighting and UVB:

No UVB

Temperatures and Humidity:

75F to 82F for heat... for humidity 75% to 80%.

Heating and Equipment:

UTH only half the tank. Don’t over heat the tank.

Caging Provided:

Glass is best used. From a 5 gallon and up. Have a lid on top. Floor space is more important than height.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Babies eat pinhead crickets, and other small insects. Adults eat crickets, mealworms, other large insects, and an occasional pinkie mouse. Don’t over feed. Only feed one time every week or two weeks.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

You can dust the food when feeding.

Maintenance:

Change water every week, mist tank every day.

Some Words on this Species:

It’s a cool pet to have. If you put one under a black light light they glow green/blue. There sting will feel like a bee sting but the venom will not kill you.
