Substrate and Water Needs: | I use reptile carpet as substrate but you can also use orchid bark. They have to have fresh water at all times in a bowl big enough to soak in. |
Lighting and UVB: | No need for UV. |
Temperatures and Humidity: | I keep one side of his tank at about 100F and the other at about 85F. He usually only basks for a few hours a day. For humidity, he just has a huge water bowl which I let evaporate through the day and refill it the next morning. |
Heating and Equipment: | I use a heat lamp with a 100w bulb but you can also use heat pads. |
Caging Provided: | A 10gallon tank with sliding screen lid. In it I have a piece of reptile carpet, a hide box, a small branch and a big water bowl. |
Diet: | Carnivorous |
Description of Diet: | I feed him 6 goldfish every 4 days. I just dump them right in the water bowl and he hunts them down. |
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage: | I haven’t had to use any. |
Maintenance: | I replace the water daily and wash the carpet weekly. |
Some Words on this Species: | They can be fun to watch but generally don’t like to be handled. Mine usually musks me or tries to bite me when I reach for him. |
