Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

King Snake

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

KingSnake

Sexing and Characteristics:

Sexing can be guessed by an experience herp keeper, i guess that my male was a male and i was right!! but probing can tell you for sure (which if your breeding is a definite need). probing should be done by an experience herp keeper or a herp vet, this is nothing to be taken by an inexperienced person. I may have four snakes in my collection but i still leave it to a vet

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

Water should be changed daily. You can use Aspen or paper towel, but for a more natural look you can also use reptile bark.

Lighting and UVB:

A full spectrum light used on a 12:12 ratio, 12 hours on 12 hours off. providing as a basking light

Temperatures and Humidity:

I keep my temperatures around 80 Fahrenheit on the hot side and 70 on the cold side, and my snakes have flourished with this. Use an under tank heater, but NEVER a heat rock a heat rock can provide burns to the snake!

Heating and Equipment:

Provide a hide box on each side of the tank with some trees and/or vines, my snakes like to climb. also i provide enough substrate that they can dig (especially with juveniles)

Caging Provided:

I start all of my snakes off in a 25 gallon tank, then i move them to a 33 gallon and then to 55 gallons, this may be excessive but i like to set it up as natural as i can.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed my juveniles once every 5 days and my adults every week. They get prey that is about 1.5times their thickest part.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

I use a calcium supplement.

Maintenance:

Do spot checks of the cage daily and clean thoroughly about once a month, i take mine to the vet once a year to get weighed and looked at, just as a precaution.
