Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:
Okeetee Corn and Snow Corn
Sexing and Characteristics:
N/A
Mostly Active During:
None
Substrate and Water Needs:
Two water bowls are used on each side of the tank. This makes sure that you have two temperatures of water for the snake to use for whatever it wishes. The water bowls should be wiped out each time you replace the water, this should be done every couple of days to a week. Wook chips work well because the corns can burrow down under them and can be cleaned by simply removing soiled chips.
Lighting and UVB:
I use a heating lamp with a 60 watt bulb directly above one side of the cage.
Temperatures and Humidity:
During the day time I keep the lamp on and the temperature stays around the 80’s on the heated side of the tank, At night the light is turned off and the temperature drops to the 70’s. When you have a heating lamp, you may want to spray water into the bedding or chips to increase the levels of humidity- I do this twice a day- I also have a hide spot under a hollowed fake rock and spray water in there also- this provides a very humid, warm, dark area for the snake to rest.
Heating and Equipment:
60 watt heating lamp.
Caging Provided:
I provided a 10 gallon tank in the beginning as hatchlings. I now provide a 30 gallon tank which is very large for my snake. I think the more room they have the more active they become- but make sure that if you do have a large tank that you provide many places for hiding.
Diet:
Carnivorous
Description of Diet:
I feed my corn snake two pinkies once each week and will move up to fuzzies after this month.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
I plan to start using a vitamin supplement which you sprinkle onto the snake’s food, this usually contains vitamins needed for the animal’s health it doesn’t normally receive with frozen prey.
Maintenance:
Replace water and wipe out water bowls weekly if not every couple of days. Approximately 3-4 days after feeding check the cage for waste and remove. If water is soiled it must be replaced immediately. Make sure there is always water provided and their feeding schedule is regular.
Some Words on this Species:
Check your snake regularly each day. I hold my snake 2-5 times daily and bathe him in the sink each night. If you don’t plan on holding the snake, it will become timid to being held. These are great animals that make great pets as long as you treat them right and take good care of them. Pamper your snake-it goes a long way!
