Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Hermies

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

NA

Sexing and Characteristics:

You cannot tell the gender of ur crab unless hes out of his shell. if there out, see if there is a black dot on the back leg. if there is your crab is a girl. you really dont need to know the gender of your crab since they can only mate by the shore of an ocean.

Mostly Active During:

N/A

Substrate and Water Needs:

You need to have a dish of water. you can provide a fresh water dish and a saltwaterdish if you want. they need at least one type of water. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO CHORENE IN THE WATER. IT WILL KILL UR CRABS! make sure for the substrates that its for hermits. sand not mean for hermits can hurt their exoskeloton. you can use children’s playbox sand or if you go to a pet store you might beable 2 find hermit crab beding.

Lighting and UVB:

You might want to provide a heat lamp on one side of the cage.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Make sure to keep the tempartures in ur house about 20-25 degrees. is ur crab cage gets too hot, you crab may crawl out of his shell and die. i know this... it happend to my crab.

Heating and Equipment:

Hm.... equpment.
well this is what u need FOR SURE

1. pellets. (food)
2. water dish WITH SPONGE.
3. something to bathe the crabs in. (a small dish perhaps)
4. another friend! crabs dont like to live alone!
5. something for them to hide in (cave, coconut)
6. sand
7. shells for when ur crabs molt

some optinal stuff

1. heat lamp (i dont have one)
2. little wood chips (my crabs absolutly love to burrow in this) my personal favorite wood i bought from crabbyland it is called hermit crab forest bedding. my crabs just love it!
3. a mesh wire for the crabs to climb up on. make sure that you do not have it too high, or your crabs could escape from the cage.

Caging Provided:

I have 2 crabs in a 10 gallon aquarium. when i had a small tank tghey push all there palm trees, water dish, and food dish over. i finally realized it was because the cage was too small. please keep you crabs in a tank that is big enough for them, ok?

Diet:

Herbivorous

Description of Diet:

I feed my crabs each one of those little pellets and then i give them a fruit or veggie. they abosultly love popcorn. if u feed them this remember thatit CANT have any SALT, OR BUTTER. remember that if they have a small pincher, to mash up the food so it is small enough.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Crushed cuttlebone iz good.

Maintenance:

Oh... THIS IS IMPORTANT! always give your crabs a bath once a week. put them in a shallow dish with NO CHOLRENE water. put them in upside down. you should see some air bubbles come up. then your crab should turn over to the right way. DO NOT KEEP YOUR CRABS IN THE WATER FOR MORE THAN 2 MINUTES. they will drown. this happend to my friend. then after a minute or so, take your wet crab and place him on a plaxce to dry off. i just use paper towels and let them crawl around.

Some Words on this Species:

I just know that i love my crabs. if you handle them carefully they will learn to trust you. they need to know ur scent befotre you pick them up or they will pinch u. once my friend picked up my sisters crab and the crab pinched him. he started crying. (ok he was only 6 but still the darn crab left a mark)
