Sexing and Characteristics:

Males have the usual hemipenal bulges and femoral pores. Also females are smaller and have narrower heads.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

Sand is the best substrate for this desert lizard. Water should be offered for 1 hour each day otherwise it will be too humid and your ’chuch will get a respiratory infection.

Lighting and UVB:

This lizard needs alot of UVB I use 2 four foot Reptisun 5.0 in the ceiling.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The basking spot for a chuckwalla is ideally is 45C (104F). the general temperature is 38C (100F). There should be as little humidity as you can manage otherwise you will have a pet with skin and respiratory infections.

Heating and Equipment:

Use a 60-100watt incandesent for the basking spot and 2 28watt heat mats on the back of the tank for the general temperature. DO NOT under any circumstance use a hot rock Chuckwallas stay on them to long and get burned.

Caging Provided:

A wooden tank 4ftx3ftx2-3ft is good for a pair for every extra animal add 1ft to each measurment with alot of large rocks set in place for hiding branches aren’t needed but will be used and abused

Diet:

Herbivorous

Description of Diet:

Chuckwallas generally like leafy vegetation, flowers(be sure they aren’t toxic I know too many daft buggers who have killed their pets),buds and fruits. Don’t use iceburg lettuce or rhubarb. Dandelions are good. Make sure there is variety otherwise some minerals will be missed.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Use supplements twice a week and feed everyday although when adults a skipped feeding won’t be a cause for concern.

Maintenance:

Generally Chuckwallas are easy so long as you take out the turds from one day.

Some Words on this Species:

Chuckwallas are a type of iguana in latin theyare called Sauromulus obesus, obesus means obese in latin so by this it is talking about how plump chucks are. They are found in southwestern America and Mexico. They are usually very docile adults might need a bit of work to become tame but after that its like a cat.
