 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Andrew88

Years Experience:

1 to 2 Years

Species:

Green Iguana

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Water Dragon

Sexing and Characteristics:

You can’t much tell if there male or female until they are older, but when they are the males have large pores on the bottom of their hind legs, that they use to grip the female during mating.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

The best thing to use is news paper, butcher paper, or a linoleum, this is the best thing to use because of the easy clean up. Do not use bark because they can ingest this an it can kill your iguana. You will need a big enough water dish for your iguana to fully submerge if he/she chooses, and it should be as long or longer than your iguana.

Lighting and UVB:

You will need a UVB bulb because this helps them digest their food. I use a UVB "moonlight" for night.

Temperatures and Humidity:

During the day it needs to be between 85-93ish in their cool spot, and about 100 in their hot spot. At night it should be about 85-90.

Heating and Equipment:

I use a 100W wide shine UVB bulb(for my repterrarium and basking shelf) and a "moonlight" UVB bulb for night.

Caging Provided:

The best thing to do is to build one or have one built for you because this is a very rapidly growing lizard. You need to have lots of things for him/her to climb on, they like to up high. I suggest to put a food dish as high as you can on their favorite branch.(they eat better this way)

Diet:

Herbivorous

Description of Diet:

Feed your iguana mostly greens, but mix with a variety of veggies such as squash, green beans, tomatoes, cucumber, green bell pepper. Your iguana will also need some fruits such as bananas, apples, grapes etc.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

You will need to give a vitamin supplement twice a week. I suggest using T Rex "Iguana Dust" because this includes everything you will need to ad to your iguanas basic diet.

Maintenance:

You will need to clean the water everyday because they often defecate in it.

Some Words on this Species:

They are very jumpy and are hard to tame but after that their okay. They are not a starter lizard.
