Sexing and Characteristics:
Males usually have a ring around there neck but in the new color morphs such as the all white neither male or female have a neck ring, also males coo more then females and will bow and coo.

Substrate and Water Needs:
Gravel for the cage bottom or newspaper, fresh water everyday in a clean dish also be sure to spray the birds with a plant mister every week to maintain good plumage.
Lighting and UVB:
These guys as with all other well known captive birds need 12 hours of sleep a night to remain healthy, be sure they have 10 hours of daylight a day also(cover with blanket at night leaving small area uncovered for air passage).
Temperatures and Humidity:
Drafts and humidity can cause health problems keep these at room temperature and cover if taking them to the car in cold weather.
Heating and Equipment:
You’ll need a cage, food/water dish, toys, perches, spray bottle, seeds/pellets, gravel, blanket or cage cover, a good book and a vet picked out before bringing him or her home.
Caging Provided:
A 2x2x2 foot square cage is a minimum per dove thou a cage 2x2 1/2x 2 1/2 would work for a pair they would need alot of out of cage time daily. Let them out of there cage daily even if large cage is provided be sure to have wings clipped before allowing them to fly free.

Herbivorous
Description of Diet:
Budgie or dove seeds and budgie/finch pellets make a good diet along with some fruits/vegetables.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
No supplements needed with proper diet.
Maintenance:
Feed and change water daily, change cage daily every week, spray once a week for healthy feathers, take to vet once a year or when sick.

Gentle species can live with much smaller birds(finches), can’t bite because they are a soft bill and when bought young can become very tame.
