 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

5 to 10 Years

Species:

Red tail boas

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

N/A

Sexing and Characteristics:

The best bet is to take your snake to a vet to get it probed. And you can tell by the size females are going to be bigger and the males are going to be smaller

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

I use reptile carpet it is easy to use and clean up after. I don’t recommend using repti bark or any bark or using sand or any type of shavings it is proven that it makes them very sick and can end up killing them

Lighting and UVB:

I use both uva and uvb during the day time and at night i use black light or a red light for heat and also it is good for them to healing the dead skin when they are shedding

Temperatures and Humidity:

I keep a temp at 85 to about 95 during the day in the winter and at night about 75 to 85 but it all depends on where you live.

Heating and Equipment:

I only use repti lights for heat because that is all they really need. And never never use a heat rock it will burn them and even kill them. if you want to use a rock just use a good flat rock and put it in there and let it heat up to the temp that is in the tank

Caging Provided:

As a baby a 10 gallon is great but you will need a bigger tank in about a year or so. But eventually you will need to find some one to build you a custom cage it is cheaper and you get what you really want out of it.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

As baby’s they will eat small mice and in a very they can eat small rats. And when they get full grown they can full size rats and even rabbits. you can feed them live or dead but from experience they like live better it makes seem like they are in the wild

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None they don’t really need any vitamins

Maintenance:

Snakes can be low maintenance at times but when they get bigger it takes a lot of time and Patience. When they go to the bathroom it is very messy. but other than that snakes are easy

Some Words on this Species:

They are a great pet but be ready to spend alot of money on feeding and making a good cage. Also do alot of research on it before you buy because they do get big and do cost some money.
