Sub Category:

Frogs

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Froggfreak

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Pacific Tree frog

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Green Tree frog

Sexing and Characteristics:

Most males will have brown stripe over the eye while females don’t have the stripe. They are very easy to breed all you would need is a tank with 4 inch/6inch water for breeding.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

Plants real or fake will do fine but i use real plants to keep humidity locked in the tank.tank size should be any where from 10 to 20 gallon which would probably cost about $100.the bottom of the tank will need fish tank rocks to keep the water if using real plants and a thin layer of soil over top.if you are not using real plants then a thick layer of dirt will suit best.mist the tank every two days and have a fairly large water dish to keep the frog moist and alive.

Lighting and UVB:

None

Temperatures and Humidity:

81% humidity/65 to 55 Fin day and 35 to 45 at night.

Heating and Equipment:

Regular glow light from any gardening shop approx 75 watts.it will keep tank warm enough the frog wont hibernate.in case your wondering most pacific tree frogs could be found in ditches or lakes in B.C. to south Alberta.

Caging Provided:

I provided a layer of rocks and a layer of dirt.i planted ferns and couch grass BEFORE i put the frog in.i provided a 15 gallon tank and a very large water dish, bout 15 inches in diameter.i provided an 80 watt exo tera light and an exo tera small size artificial jungle vine.i also added a few baby spider plants to add more humidity.if you are thinking of getting a green tree frog don’t provide the baby spider plants.the last thing i had to do was put the frog in the tank and watch it live.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Mainly i will feed it medium=m crickets and small meal worms or even the odd wood louse as a treat.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Crickets and meal worms will do fine and you will not need any special supplements in seeing that your pacific tree frog probably wont be bought’en by a store but found in your, well if your in a Canadian province over to the west side of Canada.

Maintenance:

You will only need to feed it 4 times a week.

Some Words on this Species:

This species will tend to croak if a male.if you don’t know how to tell female and male apart the male will have a brown throat while the female will have a white throat.if the male does croak you may want to find a mate and provide a larger water dish for eggs.if you want to make some extra money ask some pet store if they will buy the eggs from you.the ofer if they will will be about $10 a cluster of somewhere around fifty eggs.
