 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Years Experience:

1 to 2 Years

Species:

African Dwarf Frog

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

aquatic frogs

Sexing and Characteristics:

Very easy to look after!Great for beginners and can live with fish. Active and cute, these little frogs are fun to watch. Most petstores carry them too. Females are bigger then males, males have a whitish lump on forelimbs.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

Full water aquarium! You may use a 1 gallon tank for 1 or 2. You can also use 10 gallon aquariums and keep fish like(tetras, plecos, a betta). Water does not need a filter but should have one if keeping fish too. Water should have NO chlorine, and be clean of course. These frogs come up to breathe air.

Lighting and UVB:

Same as fish-fine with out any.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The ideal temperature is 76 degrees.

Heating and Equipment:

A heater can be provided as long as it is not too hot for the frogs.

Caging Provided:

A tank(at least a gallon), rocks, some small plants, plenty of clean non-cholrinated water.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

You can use fried-dried bloodworms which work great. You can feed brineshrimp(also known as sea monkeys). MAKE SURE YOU SEE YOUR AFRICAN DWARF FROGS EATING! It is very common to die of not eating if they are in a big tank. It is best to remove them from the tank in a small cup and watch them eat.I feed them a couple pieces a day, or every other day.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None

Maintenance:

They are very easy, and great pets with the right care. They also vary in color, size and spots and you can tell some apart.Have fun naming them!

Some Words on this Species:

I suggest them for most freshwater tanks with no aggresive fish. Good for kids too.
