Tadpoles

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Timber Rattler

Years Experience:

5 to 10 Years

Species:

Tadpole

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Any frog or toad larve

Sexing and Characteristics:

Not able to sex tadpoles till they are adult frogs or toads.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

No substrate is needed but some gravel on the bottom is good.
Water level should be about 3 inches and stack some large rocks so that the tadpoles can easily climb out of the water when they need to.

Lighting and UVB:

No special lighting needed until they are adults.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Low to mid 70’s are good for water temperature. Air temp should be about the same.

Heating and Equipment:

No heating needed unless you live in a cold place.

Caging Provided:

Anything from large jars to aquariums. I use a large kritter keeper which is about 5 gallons. In it I keep 4 small toad tadpoles and 3 medium sized frog tadpoles.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

They eat algae and small invertebrates in the wild so you can feed goldfish flakes or algae wafers. They need to be fed insects once they turn into froglets or toadlets.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

None needed

Maintenance:

Pretty much low maintenance but you gotta change the water every few days if you don’t have a filter.

Some Words on this Species:

Very rewarding to keep and fun to watch them grow and turn into little frogs and toads that you can either release or keep in tanks with their new requirements being met.
