Species:

Leopard Gecko

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

All the details on how I care for my healthy leopard gecko.

Sexing and Characteristics:

They are friendly and are truley a great pet. the Learn who there owners are in time and are easy to tame. tHe lack toepads so they are unable to climb virtical surfaces. The have eylids unlike most geckos. The are a perfet pet male of female, baby or adult( although the babies tend to be a bit jumpy)!

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

There is a WIDE range of avalibe substrates on the market. Here are a few the I have tried and suceeded with:

1-Paper Towel Its cheap and your geckos will love it!

2-Sand- Fine sand is the best, i use sand for my gecko. If you chose to use sand, PLEASE put a bottle cap of cacium powder and dust the crickets heads in calcuim powder. Also its best to feed the meal worms and crickets by hand i using sand. DO NOT LET THIS STOP YOU FROM USING SAND!

3-Large Flat Rocks are a good subrate just watch out where you out your heating source. It is a good idea to user a heat lamp rather then a heat pad due to hot spots.

Lighting and UVB:

Leopard geckos are noctunal the require no Light but a heat lamp is a good sourse of heat.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The temperatures are easily reached. A Leo needs a war side and a cool side to there habitat like most reptiles. the warm end must be between 85-90 F. and the cool end must be between 78-83 F. Leos require no humidity except for one hide that can be kept humid by damping the hid area ( not to the point of dripping. It should be kept humid when the gekos skin starts to fade ( before it sheds)

Heating and Equipment:

I use a over head heating lamp the provides the necasary heat. You can also use a under tank heater. DO NOT USE HOT ROCKS!. You should you 2 themometers to make sure the temperature are correct. REMEBER TO MESURE THE TEMP. AT THE GROUND NOT THE AIR TEMPERATURE ( your gecko doesn’t fly ;) )

Caging Provided:

Leos do not need alot of room. A 10 gallon tank will hold 1 leo while a 20 will hold up to 4! You can use a sweater box, a fish tank or a vivaruim with a screen top ( that is what i use) to house your gecko. the Vivaruims and tetaruims are favored most by gecko owners

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

The Best Staple Diet is CRICKETS. DO NOT USE PINKI MICE FOR A MAIN FOOD, only ocassionaly like once a month should a gecko have a pinki. You should feed your gecko crickets and meal worms, ocassional a wax worm or a superworm. DO NOT FEED YOUR GECKO BUGS FROM YOUR BACK YARD! because of pestisides you shouold not feed your gecko bugs form your back yard.
You must gutload your crickets and meal worms about 14-24 hours prior to feed the to your gecko. A good gutloading is orang slices, Shreded carrots, fish flakes, or comercionally sold cricket or mealworm food.
(Its best to feed you gecko a wax worm or pinki mouse after a shedding or if it has lost its tail.)

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

You should dust the bugs you feed your gecko at every feeding for babies and 2-3 time a week for adults. If you are using sand subsrate you should put a lid of calcuim powder in for your gecko to lick rather the sand.

Maintenance:

It is fairly easy to maintian a leo. The find one place to do there poos. If you are using sad you can scoop it out. If you are using paper towel you can replace the towel accordingly. If you are using other things kile rocks ar bark then place paper towel in the poo coner and change as needed. Also you should replace substrate and bleach tank about once every 5 months ( or as needed.)

Some Words on this Species:

They are amazing if you are new to Leopard geckos you will love them If you are an experienced reptile keeper you will love thm even more! I HIGHLEY recomened them !!!
