Sub Category:

Corn Snakes

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Sammy1616

Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Corn Snakes!!

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

ALL CORN SNAKES.

Sexing and Characteristics:

NOT SURE, BUT YOU COULD ALWAYS GET THEM PROBED. DO NOT PROBE YOUR SNAKE WHEN IT IS A BABY, OR IT COULD CAUSE ALOT OF DAMAGE.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF REAL BARK. IT COULD GET INFESTED WITH MITE AND DISEASE YOUR CORN SNAKE. newspaper is good to use, only if it has no printing on it. not only does this cause a mess if wet, but the ink could get your snake to become sick. there should be a water dish for the snake to submerge in when needed, and to drink. it should not be too cold or to hot. just about room temp. if your snake does submerge in the water, change it immediately.

Lighting and UVB:

No ’’special’’ lighting is really needed

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temp for adults should be 80-85degrees F. for babies, temps should be at about 90degrees F. humidity is NOT needed nor do i say you should use one.

Heating and Equipment:

DO NOT USE HEATING ROCKS. FOR ANY SNAKE!!! a heat pad on the under side of the tank is good to use on one side of the tank. BUT for babies, do not use the heat pad!!!! i cant stress this more. corn snakes like to burrow, and the babies will burrow and will not know if they are getting burned!!!

be sure to have a hide for your snake. not to big, or it could cause stress...also if you have two corn snakes in a cage together, be sure each snake has its own hide. corn snakes like to climb also so a branch or something would be good for exercise and for comfort.

Caging Provided:

For one snake, a 10 gallon tank is good. if u have more than one snake in a cage, add ten gallons for every snake added!

::WARNING:: BE SURE YOUR CAGE HAS A SECURE CLOSING. CORN SNAKES ARE ESCAPE ARTISTS, AND WHEREVER THEIR HEAD CAN GO THROUGH, THEIR BODY FOLLOWS!!!!!

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Babies eat pinkies. 2 a day. every four days. once your snake starts growing, increase the size of the mouse GRADUALLY. if not, this could cause digesting problems and cause regurgitation. or your snake may not even eat the mouse. (rarely this happens because corn snakes tend to have an appetite bigger than their stomachs can stand)

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Maintenance:

Change water dish DAILY. ’’spot clean’’ when needed, and change cage bedding etc. about once a month.

Some Words on this Species:

This type of snake is very nice. easy to care for! and great starter for armatures.
