Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:
Fire-Bellied toads
Sexing and Characteristics:
From what I know from my Fire-Bellied toads, males Make barking sounds when something runs into them. The males have ruff looking and have black dots at the top of each wort and have huge squishy pads at the tip and behind the thumb, the females have soft looking skin, and make very high pitch squeaky noises. Very hard to here, males are loud.
Mostly Active During:
Both
Substrate and Water Needs:
I use water from the sink, but always let sit for about 24 hours, or longer, then add a little more declorinator then fish need, there skin is very sensitive.
Lighting and UVB:
Lighting is not needed, but I love light in my frogs tanks, I use plant lights witch are 15w and are like sunset light. which encourages breeding sometimes
Temperatures and Humidity:
Temperature should be around 78, humidity should be around 60-70, if higher, wont hurt, mine do fine. Humidity is the dew on the dew side of the tank, it keeps them most and air comfortable. if the temperature is around 70 that wont hurt them at all, they live in streams in the wild.
Heating and Equipment:
No need for heat unless in cold places, maybe a junior heater will do the job. Filter would do great. A light that will do great for live plants. if u have a huge tank, and cant heat it, don’t worry, get a junior heater, and lay it down on its side in about 3 inches of water, or more, and let it heat up for 20 min and your tank will heat up.
Caging Provided:
I put 3 fire bellied toads in a 30 gallon tank. They do fine, But ALWAYS put a lid on your tank, that fully covers it, I’m not stupid, but paying 20$$ for a lid is kinda expensive, I have a 20 gallon tank lid on mine. it works fine at this point.
Diet:
Carnivorous
Description of Diet:
Crickets, worms, anything that moves, but put calcium dust on the food your going to give them before feeding, its best for there health. I feed potato bugs, crickets, and other things that are free outside. or go to your local pet store and get a 12 crickets.
Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:
Calcium powder is great for putting on the food your going to give your pets, and if cant buy at a store, and in a hurry, dry out some egg shells and crunch up into a fine dust, add honey or something tasty and sugar and add a tittle bit of water on it. Egg shells (from a chicken) are pure calcium. cool huh?
Maintenance:
Clean tank every month, filters every time they get too packed with crap, best if let water sit 24 hours before cleaning tank. lights should have extras just in case. plants should be put in a bull, with tank water and do the tank. plants can be put back in after finishing.
Some Words on this Species:
Fire bellied toads are awesome pets and are easy to take care of!!! love em they’ll love ya back!!!
