Care Sheet for Tree Frogs

Average Rating Given To This Care Sheet Is 2.00    (1=lowest, 5=highest)    Last Updated: 06/27/2005

Main Category:

Aquatic/Land

Sub Category:

Tree Frogs

 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Basilisk15

Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Barking Tree Frog

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Other tree frogs

Sexing and Characteristics:

The chin part of the males is greener than the females. Males also bark.

Mostly Active During:

Night

Substrate and Water Needs:

They need a bowl of water for soaking. Don’t make it deep, because they’ll drown. The best substrate is Bed-A-Beast. Other substrates that are usable are newspaper (Very unnatural looking, though), paper towels, indoor/outdoor carpeting, and Jungle Bedding.

Lighting and UVB:

Get a low wattage bulb for lighting. If you don’t have one, keep them in a bright room and turn off the lights at night.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The temperatures should be around 70-82 degrees. The humidity should be around 70-100 percent.

Heating and Equipment:

Usually, room temperature is good enough, unless you live somewhere cold. A low wattage heat lamp is needed if you do live in a cold place. If you have a heat lamp, mist the cage often to cool down your frog.

Caging Provided:

A 20-gallon tank is good, but if it’s bigger, than it’s better. They love climbing, so get them some stuff to climb. Be sure you have a lid for your tank, because the frog will climb the glass and escape

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Crickets should be the main thing you feed them. They can also eat fruit flies, superworms, moths, waxworms, nightcrawlers, red worms, and I think they can eat small pinkies. Avoid mealworms.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust their food with calcium supplement.

Maintenance:

Clean out your tank, when it needs to be. Don’t handle your frog , often.

Some Words on this Species:

Good frogs to own. Good for beginners. Don’t get them if think they’re gonna be fun to watch. They mostly just sit in a corner during the day.
