 Care Sheet Submitted By:

Golden Gex

Years Experience:

Under 1 Year

Species:

Golden Gecko

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

Golden Gecko only

Sexing and Characteristics:

The male will have a bulge on each side of his tail between his legs on the under side, also he will have a v like shape between his legs. Brighter than a female and a little larger.

Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

A water dish is a must have,Something to climb on(tree, vines, etc.)

Lighting and UVB:

UVA-UVB lighting is not a MUST have but it does seem to brig out there color more and they are more active in the day time when its on.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Temp should be any where from 70-90 degrees F.
Humidity should always try and stay from 65-80(purchase a humidity gauge)

Heating and Equipment:

A 40-60 watt red "infrared heat bulb" works great. Just keep on one side of tank so the gecko can maintain body temp it is comfortable with.

Caging Provided:

Get a higher up tank instead of a long one. Golden geckos love to climb up. I have mine in a 20g tall,it suits him perfect. A water dish in one corner and a drift wood structure in the middle to climb and hide on.

Diet:

Omnivorous

Description of Diet:

Goldies are known to eat fruit and baby food(fruit flavored).
Personally mine does not like baby food. I feed mine a mix of silkworms-crickets-mealworms and sometimes sliced fruit.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

I dust my crickets with a vitamin and D3 powder before eating every other meal. I also gut load my mealworms and crickets, the silkworms come ready to be eaten.

Maintenance:

If you have bark for the bottom put it in the oven and bake it for 400 degrees for about 20min. This ensures that all the harmful germs are fried. Also change the water or refill every couple of days. Clean the "poop" from the bark before baking,or not,the 400 degrees insures all of the germs will be gotten rid of.

Some Words on this Species:

This species of gecko is solitary it does not need to be placed with groups of its own kind especially not 2 males. It might be ok to have 1 male and 1 female. And they need humidity and heat to be just right or problems will occur. This is not a beginners species to care for so I only recommend this for someone who has had experience with reptiles-geckos.
