Years Experience:

3 to 5 Years

Species:

Eastern Fence Lizards

Other Species or Phases this Care Sheet May Cover:

None

Sexing and Characteristics:

Males have dark blue spots under their necks and going down the sides of their bellies. Females have lighter blue spots that are sky blue.

Mostly Active During:

Day

Substrate and Water Needs:

Sand works best with them. Natural sand is the best kind. Put a water dish in with them, they will sometimes drink from it. But also mist them once a day.

Lighting and UVB:

Use a UV light(Ultra Violent) during the day.

Temperatures and Humidity:

The temperature should be kept at about 75 to 85 degrees F during the day and room temperature at night.

Heating and Equipment:

Use a mild heat lamp during the winter months. If you live in a cold area, use it all year long.

Caging Provided:

A ten gal could house two adults or 5 young. 3 young or 1 adult can be kept in a 5 gal. Give a hide box and pine branches.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

They eat mostly crickets. Do not feed them meal worms, it will cause spinal problems.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

Dust the crickets with calcium powder before feeding them to the lizard(s).

Maintenance:

Clean the cage about every month. And change the water every time it gets dirty. Be careful when taking them out for cleaning and when you go in to get the water out. They can climb up your arm(It’s happened to me), and if they get out you will NEVER catch them.

Some Words on this Species:

They are great to keep and are very fun to watch. They have great personalities. Be for warned that this species is not good with people, try to interact with them as little as possible and do not, I really mean do not handle them! They are almost certain to get away. And as I said before, you will NEVER catch them.
