Mostly Active During:

Both

Substrate and Water Needs:

I like to use forest bark. It is relatively easy to clean, my guys burrow easily into it to sleep, and it hold moisture (humidity) well. It also looks nice with virtually any other type of decor for the environment you design. I also use moss underneathe the water dish, it helps to prevent too much spilling, and it holds extra humidity if you need it.

Lighting and UVB:

Needs to have UV lighting as well as heating source.

Temperatures and Humidity:

Our tank stays at 75 to 95 degrees and there is ample areas for the Lizards to find more or less warmth in their tank depending on how they are feeling their needs are at the moment. There is areas to shelter or bask. Our humidity stays between 40 and 60%. and we find that they like these conditions the best. Scales are healthy, they are frisky, appetites are good, etc.

Heating and Equipment:

For our heating requirements, we have a basking lamp with a tight beam spot light. This is directly over the flat rock they use for basking. We had a radiant pad heater, but in combination with our sunlamp and heat lamp, we found that our tank stayed fairly warm. For our nursery, we put the self stick heat pad on the side and a heating pad below the tank.

Caging Provided:

Our adults are in a 30 gallon tank. There is a large log, a twisted piece of driftwood, a flat rock, two climbing rocks, and some foliage, plus a water dish and a worm cup. The top is covered with a sturdy screen and on the top rests the UV lamp and the heat lamp. Our nursery is also set up in a 30 gallon tank, with a basking rock (flat), a hollow log, some foliage, an old cabana from the hermit crab tank, plus the water dish. It also has the secure screen top with lamps set on top.

Diet:

Carnivorous

Description of Diet:

Although we have read that the swifts have taken the occasional flower or fruit or veggie, ours never do. It has been offered. Ours likes the mealworms, dusted with Reptivite, live crickets, and the occasional wax worms.

Supplements, Nutrition and Usage:

We use the Reptivite and Calcium suppliments dusted on the crickets and mealworms.

Maintenance:

I clean our tanks once a week minimum, the water dish is cleaned daily. Food dish is fresh daily. I mist them at least once a day, although Larry likes the "Shower" so sometimes I will give him extra. I wash all the apparati from the tank in a mild bleach solution and thoroughly rinse to replace. I hold the lizards daily and talk to them as I pass their home. Larry also enjoys coming out on a leash and playing with the cat. The cat is very tolerant and Larry likes to pretend he’s a Gila monster. Leora is happy to just be held and put down, she doesn’t care for the outside the tank business. The babies I pet and hold every day so they are accustomed to human touch.

Some Words on this Species:
